Hates hunting and is okay with Abortion...is it just me or is someone confused?

I have gotten some comments (which I have not posted) that disagree with mine and Josh's hunting. They have said things such as "It's inhumane" and "How can you call yourself a Christian and then kill an innocent animal"....well, allow me to explain.

And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth [upon] the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Genesis 9:2-3

God gave us the beast of the earth, the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea to us for meat. To me, killing and eating a deer is no different than going to Wal-Mart and buying a pork tenderloin or ground beef and condoning the killing of a pig or a cow. There is really no difference. If God had said not to eat a cow or a deer, I wouldn't eat it, but GOD gave us the deer, the cow, the pig, and the fish so that we could have meat. One comment stated that the gun we were using didn't look like a very humane way to kill a deer. I don't mean to sound rude or smart mouthed, but you can't kill a deer humanely. Unless you go after it with a needle which is impossible and pretty funny looking I would think. LOL So, that is why I see no problem with hunting.

This topic always gets me to thinking and normally will set me off somewhat. I can deal with people who disagree with me, I get it all the time. I never post ALL the comments that I get, I get more bad comments than good. And I don't mind sharing what and why I agree or believe that way. But this is what gets me about this topic...most of the time, I'm not saying all the time, but most of the time when you have a person who will defend animals rights so strongly it's normally someone who is completely okay with abortion, which is the murder of a child, a human being! Yet, they will get on here and leave a comment about how wrong I am for killing an animal. How backwards does that sound. I'm not being mean or hateful, I'm just sharing what I have on my heart. How can someone willingly walk into a clinic and ask someone to kill their baby? How?!?! There aren't many topics that I will get upset over, but abortion is one of them.

To those that do agree with abortion, how can you be okay with the killing of a baby? I don't care what the circumstance of the pregnancy, don't kill it, let someone adopt it!

To those who appose abortion, thank you for your stand!

I think you have handled yourself so well with this. You have answered pretty much with the same responses I would have. Don't let these people get to you. I believe like you believe - that God gave these creatures to us. If I lived on a farm I'd raise my own food and never ever to go a store again if I could. Happy Hunting!!!

I am sorry you are getting so many negative comments. Please do not let them get to you. I, for one, completely agree with your post. The Lord gave us animals to eat. It is actually more inhumane to not hunt deer because they are so overpopulated. Where I grew up and where my parents still live, deer are so overpopulated that the state pays people to hunt. It's the safest population control. It's way more humane to hunt the deer and use their meat than it is to allow them to starve to death or get hit by a car. One man I know that is paid by the state to hunt, donates all of the extra meat he gets to the poor. How is that anything but humane.

And abortion is totally wrong! If it is not a living baby, then you aren't pregnant. I am all for choice, but the choice comes before conception. If you don't want a baby, choose to keep your clothes on and choose to never be alone with someone.

Stay strong for Him!

Everyone is right, you have handled this one great.

So, were you hunting for survival?

Kristina said...

Lanica,

In a way I guess you could say that we are. We go grocery shopping for survival. Getting a deer will provide us with enough meat so that we'll not have to buy meat for a while. Deer hunting is an inexpensive way to get meat. It will save Josh and I money.

What about the 14 year old that gets raped by her uncle and gets pregnant. I guess she should have kept her clothes on too eh?

I don't agree with abortion as a form of birth control but there are circumstances in which a safe legal medical option needs to be available.

If they outlaw abortions people are going to resort to the old fashioned method with a coat hanger and a vaccum cleaner in someones basement. Then you will have the mother and the child die.

Kristina said...

It's still a life being taken.

Abortion not matter what the reason, rape, incest or just all out carelessness, is wrong.

What happened is not the baby's fault, by having an abortion an innocent child is being murdered.

Brittney said...

I agree, Kristina. Two wrongs do not make a right. Rape is horrible. Abortion makes that bad situation worse. Most women are not presented with the facts of the aftermath of abortion. The guilt alone is traumatizing. The hormones of a pregnancy that is terminated early on are horrific--I know this from experience (miscarriage at 12 weeks). I also know from experience that conception isn't merely a blob of tissue. I held my 8 week-old "fetus" (gag--BABY!!) and it's little body barely being all of an inch, I saw with my naked eye his eyes, his mouth, his feet..... even his tiny, tiny little fingers. I can't begin to describe to you how beautiful and precious that life was. Life is precious. God created it... ON PURPOSE. My heart breaks for the girl who is raped. The tragedy is the rape, not the child. If somebody must die for this act, it should be the rapist. That's my view on it. Abortion is not a solution.

Thanks for your stance.

I think it's a leap to say that people who are in favor of animal rights are also in favor of abortion.

Of course those people exist--not saying they don't--but unless the person who left the comment said something to that effect, I'd be careful about putting words in their mouth.

This is how you end up with negative comments like that, Kristina.

Perhaps the person who left the comment is a vegetarian? Or Vegan? Then the arguement about buying meat is invalid, now isn't it?

The bible also says we should stone an adultress and whores, so should we all go out and pick up those stones?

For the record, I am a meat eating Christian, however I would like to see Christian bloggers start using logical arguements.

Anonymous,

I wasn't saying that all of them feel that way, just that a majority of them do. And I wasn't saying that the people that left the comments believe that way. It was the topic of the post that got me to thinking about animal rights/pro choice people...not the comments or the people making them.

I think people like myself that believe in the right to choose to be a mother or not are clear in the medical fact that an abortion is the termination of a cell. Not a baby. I do not support the murder of babies, because the fact is that cell is not a baby that developing cell COULD be a baby. People choose to terminate and I choose to support my right to make that decision and not have someone else tell me what to do with my body.

I am not a vegan and was a failed vegetarian for 9 months (couldn't hold longer than that) the problem I have with hunting is not the fact that you kill to eat because like you said it is along the same lines as buying the meat. The problem I have is personal. I could never consider it a sport or a hobby to end a living creature's life. Which is why I wouldn't kill a baby either. If that deer, or rabbit or moose was a creature to-be then I wouldn't have a problem. But to extinguish the life of a living thing with my own hands.. I couldnt. I am certainly more comfortable with the double standard of going to shop for the already killed by someone else piece of steak.

I am sure you would consider since you are a devout christian the termination of that cell murder because the termination of that "possible" life is what you consider murder. To us is a cell that could be something but we choose not to let be.

Abortion should always be a choice.
If a girl becomes pregnant as a result of rape, and is forced to keep the child, she is likely to resent it, and thats not fair is it?

Anonymous said...

Kristina,

I agree with what you have said. There are way too many people who care more about animals than a human. Those innocent babies did not ask to be conceived,no matter how the conception came about. They do have the right to be born and loved by someone who will care for them. There are many couples who are looking at adoption as a means of having their family.

I know that you are in Georgia, so you probably heard about the big hoopla over the crazy kitten earlier this week. All the money that was spent trying to save an animal while down the road somewhere the life of an innocent baby was being taken away.

I drop in and read every once in while. Thank you for taking a stand.

My family are also hunters. There is nothing wrong with it as long as the meat is being used to feed people. We don't buy much beef due to our health. So when we run out of deer meat, we buy lots of chicken and turkey. I'm not quiet enough to try turkey hunting.

Maybe one day.

Don't try to talk to idiots like that. My husband hunts too. We don't waste the meat and he doesn't trophy hunt. I'm not saying he wouldn't be proud of a ten-point buck but you are right it is a source of food. When people go and buy meat from the store it is the same thing. People that think like that really need to find something to occupy their time.

Good answers, Kristina!
I got a comment on my blog awhile back asking how I could write a post against abortion when there were pictures of my brother with deer he'd killed on my blog also. I couldn't figure out if they were actually serious or not...come now, like anyone can't see there's a difference between a precious human life and an animal. Oh well. Nobody ever said it would be easy to follow Christ! Keep up the good work...your blog is a blessing.

Kristina said...

Natalie,

I'm not saying force her to keep the baby, but carry it and then let someone who will love that baby adopt it.

There are hundreds of couples that would love to have children and can't and would love nothing more than to adopt a newborn baby.

Kristina said...

Mel82,

It is a BABY, you can see the heartbeat on an ultrasound at 7 weeks, and at 9 to 10 weeks you can hear the heartbeat with a doppler. A heartbeat means life. Cells don't have heartbeats. It's a human being. From the minute that you conceive you are carrying a baby...not a fetus.

So to terminate a pregnancy even at 6 weeks is the murder of a BABY, not the removing of a cell.

Mel82 said...

Actually at 9 to 10 weeks it's not even a fetus, it's an embryo, so not even a fetus and not yet a baby.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Hey Kristina well done on taking a stand!! Hunting isnt a sin, It can become one if you do if for the trophy or the pride or needlessly taking from Gods creation. But to provide for you and your family it is what God had planned for us. It is just that most of us go to the supermarket to "hunt". One thing I like about hunting is on the occasions I have gone NOTHING is wasted from the animal you shot. That is much better that the abotars.

Oh and my "lump of cells that MIGHT be a baby" who is now having a chat in her highchair, had a heartbeat and brain stem at 5weeks 5days when I had my first scan. I have the photos and I remember lying on the bed crying in wonderment that something smaller than my little finger nail had a brain stem. Thats not a lump of cells that was my daughter.

Blessings!!
Amy

Brittney said...

Mel, I'm sorry, it's so much more than a nice little scientifical cell. Call it what you want, but it's a BABY... Created by God. I know. I loved one... I had one... and I had to bury it... and not a day goes by in which I don't miss that little heart beating in my womb. And I deeply resent you refusing to call it a baby. I don't get worked up easily... But refusing to call a baby a baby hits a very tender spot in my heart.

Brittney said...

PS... I have an honest question to Natalie, would it be more fair to kill the child?

Mel82 said...

Brittney,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am sure the moment the life started in your womb it was a baby, with a name, a personality and a bright future ahead of him or her.

For others who do not want that though it is not a baby. You saw your baby as a baby because you wanted her/him, you were happy about the prospect of being a mommy. I am not going to refute that to a woman who lost a son or daughter. I agree with you on that end.

But I stand firm on MY believe that if I were to get pregnant to ME that cell that is yet to become something by science, by medicine fact is not yet a baby. To ME is a cell with like a said before a potential to BECOME something else.

I am very sorry for your loss and sorry that my words made you relive that pain.

Natalie said...

Kristina - I understand that point of view, but I also understand that while pregnant, you start to bond with your child, this surely causes conflicts within the mother, which cannot be healthy for her state of mind. To carry the child, then allow someone to adopt it, its asking a lot.

Brittney - I feel we would not be able to agree on this situation, given your previous post response, and I certainly do not want to purposfully cause offence. That being said, I am pro choice and I do not feel that abortion should be made illegal like it is in some countries.

I am not a Christian, I am not in anyway religious, but I am interested in it, and even more interested in the people involved and the subjects, such as this one, as I often cannot get my head around it.

Kristina.....I am SO proud of you for taking the stands that you take. I'm thankful that God has used you to help some and to inform others. It is sad that you have to have those that will share their "opinions" in such an ugly manner that you couldn't even publish them. It is great to see so many offer their words of encouragement for what you have posted.

I'm thankful that you are a student of the Word of God and that you have allowed the Lord to use you!!

I love you and keep posting as God leads you. There will be those that will not move on their belief no matter how wrong they are...but there will ALWAYS be those that will believe as God has shown us to and they will always have your back.

I love you....Momma

I'm a lurker - I quite enjoy your blog, but haven't commented before. I have a few thoughts on this topic. First, I don't think it is particularly fair to say "a majority" of pro-choice individuals are against hunting. Unless you have some sort of verifiable statistic, this is a sweeping generalization with no foundation what so ever. Anyways, that's just a side note from my real thoughts.....

I find that we as a Christian community too often over simplify the abortion issue and place the responsibility of the wrong-doing on the woman having the abortion. The Christian community is very eager to rally, blog, picket, post signs, wear badges and bumper stickers all railing against abortions and those who choose/perform them...but how many of those badge wearing, blogging followers of Jesus are helping the women who are at risk?

Women who choose abortions do not choose them because they want to kill a baby. Our society is so crumbled, so fragmented, that women are put into places without safe relationship to support them in the most challenging times of their lives. It is easy for us to say "don't kill it, just let someone adopt it" but are you there, holding her hair back as she pukes with morning sickness as a single mother trying to get to her minimum wage paying job that she needs to feed the babies she already has? Are you there to support the 17 year old whose father will hit her when he finds out she is pregnant? Are you there to wipe the tears of the rape victim every time she looks at her growing belly - the physical reminder of the most horrific event of her life? I know that until recently, I was not, and now that I work with women who choose, and sometimes do not choose to have abortions, I have a much clearer understanding and a much larger well of compassion for their situations and their choices.

Next time you're in a line up for the women's washroom, take a look around you - 1 in 3 of those women has terminated a pregnancy. Each one of those women carries a story, each one of those women had reasons and burdens that caused her to make the most difficult of choices, each one of those women was so unsupported, had a life so challenging that they did not have any other choice.

If you were the tragic position of feeling that an abortion was your only choice and you had a friend who you knew had said "don't kill it, just let some one adopt it" in regards to abortion, would that friend be some one you would go to with your story of pain and struggle? No,you would not share your heart with that friend, because you would afraid of judgment. The people these women go to with their painful situations are abortion service providers. It is not the hands of the Christians who encourage adoption over abortion holding the hands of the broken women while they are having their abortions...it is abortion counselors and nurses.

The problem of abortion is a reflection of our failure as Christians, and as the Church to support women. If you want a soap box to stand on, let it be about this, the real issue, the one that we can actually do something about.

The Bible calls us to
"Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy." (Psalm 82:3)

I too believe that abortion ends a life. But I know that the responsibility is on me - the one who bears the truth and the commission to love as Christ love me. The women who seek abortions feel they have no choice - it is up to us, the Church to lovingly provide them with true choices.

PS. My husband hunts too. Elk sausage is our most favourite. And bear makes great stew.

Kristina, I just wanted to thank you for voicing your thoughts on this extremely important issue. Your blog has been really encouraging to me and I'm grateful I stumbled upon it. It's nice to read the thought of a fellow young married Christian lady. (I just turned 20.)
I do not eat meat, dairy or eggs because of personal aversion to the foods and killing process and because of allergies. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only vegetarian in the world who values the lives of unborn children more than the lives of animals. Like you, I get extremely upset about abortion-- it's one of the few things that gets me truly angry. Just wanted to let you know that there are some pro-life vegetarians in the world. :-)

Being 22 weeks pregnant myself, I can tell you that YES my baby is alive NOW! I've heard it's heartbeat, felt it move, seen it alive and well on the ultrasound screen. Abortion stops a beating heart.....terminates a life.

To all those out there who are so dogmatic about abortion, you better be glad your mother didn't feel the same way when she was pregnant with YOU.

Sis. Kristina,

Wow, what a can of worms!!! At the end of the day, if folks don't agree then they need not visit, right? Let them go find people of their own kind to blog with instead of hasseling you.

And just to set the record straight, science has been known to be wrong many, many, many, many times. So we can't go on science, we must go on God's Word (which has been proven right many, many, many, many times)and He said that murder (a human life) is wrong. If anyone can show me where God condemned someone for killing an animal I'd sure like to see it.

And NO, it is not a cell to one and a baby to another it is either one OR the other, and God says it's a life, so at the end of the day it doesn't matter what OUR oppinions are, HIS is the only oppinion that counts.

Keep on the firin' line (which doesn't look to hard to do, lol), and standin' for what's right!!!!

God bless,
Sis. Tammy

I just came across your blog today, and I've spent some time reading your posts.

I'd like to address the hunting/abortion issue. As a long time animal activist, I have also been perplexed when confronted by people who believe that killing animals is wrong but that killing children is okay.

Personally, I believe that hunting is better than buying factory farmed meat at the grocery store. That being said, I believe in a vegetarian lifestyle for humane reasons as well as promoting equitable distribution of food resources.

Usually, I spend my energy talking about cosmetic testing, etc....and not so much on the food production. But all these issues are important to me.

As for abortion....the concept truly baffles me. I just don't get the fact that people are killing their children.

Not all of us who believe that animals have rights believe it should be "open season" on kids.

Jeany J said...

MamaVee, you said it all, and I just wanted to emphasize this:

"Are you there to wipe the tears of the rape victim every time she looks at her growing belly - the physical reminder of the most horrific event of her life?"

That. That exactly. To brush of carrying the child of rape with "well place it for adoption" is to not understand any of the emotions involved in carrying such a pregnancy OR those involved in adoption placement.
