She's Here!

Kloe Nikole
September 22, 2010
8 lbs. 14 oz. - 20" long
Born at 11:40 p.m.

Lil Miss Kloe has finally arrived into our lives and so far has been such a joy to both Josh and I. It was a long, hard and difficult experience...but one that I would not trade for anything in this world. I thank God for His hand of protection over both Kloe and I.

As my previous post said, I started having contractions at 10:00 p.m. on the 21st. Once I got to the hospital they told me that I was not in "true" labor, but Kloe's heart rate was low. It was in the range of the 90's to the 120's and they said that they would keep me until 7:00 a.m. to see what the midwife wanted to do. When the midwife came into the room she said that she was concerned with Kloe's heart rate, but that since I had a dr. appt the next day she didn't see it being too big of a problem. But, we had 3 choices as to what could be done. 1- Be sent home and go to the dr. the next day to be seen and schedule an induction. , 2- Have my membranes scraped and be sent home to wait for the hard labor to start. , or 3- Be induced and have Kloe that day.

Josh and I talked and opted for the induction due to the fact that Kloe's heart rate was low and due to the fact that we live 40 minutes from the hospital and didn't want to take the chance of having my membranes scraped and not make it to the hospital in time. So, at 8:45 they started the pitocin. By 2:00 they checked me and said that I had made little to no progress. So they decided to break my water to try and get things progressing faster as well as upping the pitocin. By 5:00 I was in so much pain and so exhausted. I asked for some pain meds in my IV and they did absolutely nothing. I tried my best to stick it out and go completely natural, but at 5:40ish I asked for an epidural. Once I got that...I was in HEAVEN! I was feeling no pain and was now getting to rest and relax and let my body do what it needed to do. Before I got the epidural I was just too tense for my body to dilate the way that it needed.

At 10:50 the dr. told me that I was now fully dilated and that I was ready to push. After pushing for 50 minutes our precious Kloe was born!

So glad you have a beautiful little girl. I had a spinal and never regretted having pain intervention. Enjoy being a Mom and Dad.

Oh Congrats!!!

Unmedicated labor with pitocin should be against the Geneva Conventions. :-) At least that's what my mother said. For me, it took an epidural in order to dilate properly myself- I had a VERY long labor.

Congrats! incidentally, your dear little one and my mom share a birthday!!! Enjoy your baby-moon!

Oh, Kristina! There aren't enough congratulations in the world! God bless you and Joshua and your new family member, Kloe! I've been on pins and needles since your e-mail on Wednesday and we prayed you and Kloe would have a safe delivery. How is Joshua bearing up as a new Daddy? What a sweetheart and a miracle--God certainly does his miracles every day. She is certainly beautiful--and may I mention happy birthday to you, too!

She's beautiful, congratulations. don't feel bad about the epidural, a natural childbirth may be a nice thing, but I personally would rather not be so exhausted that I can't enjoy my newborn. I had a C-section and have never regretted that.

The first two weeks are the hardest. I guarantee it DOES get easier! My little man is now four months old and such a joy...motherhood is great.

She was worth every second of the pregnancy and labour, wasn't she?

Very nice that you got fully dilated in a few hours. When I was in labour, it took almost forever to get to 10 cm. I think I spent 90 per cent of the 24 hours at 1 or 2 cm. A C-section was imminent; we were just waiting for the obstetrician to finish up another operation. In the few minutes we waited, my little guy decided it was time to bust out!

Even with the epidural (which I loved, thank you God and doctors!), I was able to push.

Congratulations, and enjoy the rest of your lives with Kloe!

Congrats! She was a BIG baby--I'm glad you decided to get the epidural rather than torturing yourself without it, and it allowed you to enjoy the experience more.

I am totally with you on the epidural. They gave me pitocin with my little girl and it made the contractions so strong and hard. After the epidural it was wonderful. I felt like I really enjoyed the experience. I was able to relax and chat with my hubby and family.
