There has been so much going on here lately and that is the reason for my absence. Our family has had both good times and bad times in this past month.
My sister had her little boy on March 19th, and he looks just like his Daddy!
My brother graduated from the police academy and is now a sworn in police man! In much sadder news, my sister-in-law Jessica found out that she was expecting twins only to miscarry them a week later. We are all torn to pieces by this, please pray for her and Ronnie!
I go to a high risk specialist this coming Friday to get an in-depth ultrasound to check the baby for down syndrome. Josh and I are just trying to prepare ourselves, but no matter the outcome- it will be our precious little baby and we will love it with all of our hearts! I have chosen not to get the amniocentesis due to the miscarriages it causes. Please keep us in your prayer!
Maybe I missed an earlier post--but what indicators have they seen for Down's that they want you to get an in depth u/s for? Keep in mind that the majority of the time, all of these things turn out to be nothing...and like you said, that baby is going to be aweful lovable anyway. :-) My "regular" job involves coordinating activities for adults with disabilities and I've done a lot of work in the past with disabled kids, too. They may offer some unique challenges, but the joy that people with Down's in particular bring...it can't be beat! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteWelcome back; It must be in the air! I finally just updated today too!
ReplyDeletePraying for your whole family and congratulations on hitting 18 weeks today!!!
Remember that sometimes there are false positives with the tests...
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you as you go through the tests...
I know you will be a precious mother and father no matter the outcome...
Amnio has a chance of miscarriage. I had to have them with both pregnancies due to advanced maternal age.
ReplyDeleteI did not have complications with either, my biggest complaint was drinking all the water for the ultrasound and then having them poke my belly with the scanner.
I am sorry for your brother and sister in laws loss.
I will pray that you have a good outcome with your ultrasound.
You can do it Kristina, even if your baby does have Down Syndrome. There are lots of support groups etc.
ReplyDeleteAs the mom of mentally retarded child, I can tell you that it is hard, but not impossible. And for you, there are many who have gone before you, and much in the line of literature and support groups. For us, they only know of fifty other children with the genetic condition that my son has, and so there is no literature, there is no support groups, nobody who has gone before us. We have no clue what is in store for our son. But he has a very special place in our hearts and we love him.
I am hoping for your sake that your baby doesn't have Down Syndrome, but, if he does, that God will give you what you need to handle it. Oh, and people will make cruel comments, you have to learn to get over those because it will happen unfortunately.
I will continue to pray for you and your family. Just remember that the Lord knows what He's doing no matter what happens!
ReplyDeleteKristina,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on becoming an aunt. I hope your sister and nephew are doing well. I send the best.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of the twins. I wish I had the right words for your brother and sister-in-law.
I will be thinking about you on Friday. I have a feeling that everything will turn out okay. I am surprised that they "flagged" you on the test. I am hoping for a false positive. No matter what the outcome is, you and Josh will give the little one more than anything in the world.
Keep up updated. I know it can be hard :)

Praying for you!
ReplyDeleteKristina, my husband and I are including you and your husband and child in our prayers. You're very strong and courageous. Your baby will be your precious baby no matter what, given to you by God. I can't give you a hug, but know that we are thinking good, positive thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your brother and sister-in-law losing their twins. They're in our prayers as well.
