"My Purity Ring"

I had never heard about a purity ring until about four or five years ago, I loved the idea when I heard about it and knew that I wanted one. So on my sixteenth birthday my parents bought me a ring, my purity ring. I asked for this ring because I wanted to make a commitment to God and my parents to remain pure until my wedding day.

Most people call this type of ring a commitment ring or a promise ring, but I like to call it a purity ring. I have had people ask me what it is and what it means, so I thought I would show you a picture of my purity ring and explain the reasons why I got that particular one.

The reason I picked this ring is because of all that it has on it and what they all symbolize.
Gold- purity
White Pearl- purity
Diamonds- purity

All those things symbolize what I wanted the ring for. When I was given my ring I handed over to my parents a paper with all my commitments to them and to God written on it. I made more commitments to my parents than to just remain pure, one was that I would remain in the home till I marry.

I thought I would give you some definitions of the words pure, chaste, commitment, and chasity.

Pure- clean, unsoiled, free from guilt or defilement; chaste, modest.
Chaste- modest, virtuous, virgin.
Commitment- promise, declared attachment to a doctrine or a cause.
Chasity- abstention from unlawful sexual activity; sexual purity; virginity.

The reasons for me staying pure is because of what the Bible says about fornication. Here are the scriptures on it.

I Thess 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification , that ye should abstain from fornication:

I Cor 6:13b Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

I Cor 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

I Cor 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

When I go to my wedding altar to take my vows, I want stand there able to say that I am a chaste bride! My ring reminds me of that dream every time I look at it and it keeps me going in the right direction, because it reminds me of the promise I made to God and my parents.

I know this post was not put together very well, I hope I told what I wanted to tell in the right way. :D

  5. You did a great job on this post Kristina. I'm so proud of you and that you take this commitment so seriously. I pray a hedge about you and your brother and sister each and every day that the devil not tempt you in any way to stray from those things you've committed to God and us. No doubt he will try....but God is much stronger than he is....with God ALL things are possible. I love you so much!!!

  14. Wow Tiffany. My mom lead me to your blog and I read about it. I am actually in the midst of looking for a purity ring right now! The one I have been eyeing for the last week or so is silver with a dark blue jewel in the middle and diamonds going all around it! I cannot decide if I should get that one or if I should find one, like you said, with gold, diamonds, and a pearl! Thank you for sharing.

  15. Hi, i'm fourteen (fifteen on July 12th--which, yay, is one day after your wedding) and i was googling about purity rings when i came across your blog. You've really inspired me to go ahead and do this, its something that i've been thinking about for awhile. I've always known that i was to remain a virgin until marriage, but i've really been thinking about making a real commitment to it. ah, now just to tell my mom. who i think will be more than proud of my commitment and my telling her of it. So many people have negative feelings on purity rings, but then i read these blogs and comments of the commitments and just the altogether happiness of remaining pure, and i know for a fact that i want to be one of you. (well not you in general, but you know what i mean, a member of the general public that has chosen to make this commitment and to live a life a purity. sorry for the rambles, this is the first place i've shared my feelings on this, and i greatly appreciate the honesty and laying your feelings out on the line for all of us. Your a great example for everyone, good luck on your wedding and marriage life.
